Home Care Costs in New Jersey

This guide breaks down what drives the cost of home care, how VA benefits and long-term care insurance can help offset it, and how home care compares to facility care — with no surprise bills.

Short answer: Your cost depends on the level of support your loved one needs and how many hours per week you need them — hourly for part-time help, or live-in for 24-hour coverage. Most families pay privately, then layer in VA benefits or long-term care insurance where eligible.

White Dove Health Agency uses flat-rate, transparent pricing — no hidden fees, no meter running while a caregiver eats lunch. The exact rate depends on the level of care, hours needed, and whether you choose hourly or live-in care.

5 Factors That Affect Your Rate

  • 1

    Level of Care

Companionship and personal care (bathing, dressing, meals) sit at the lower end. Specialized dementia, mobility, or post-hospital recovery care may cost more due to caregiver training requirements.

  • 2

    Hours Per Week

More weekly hours typically mean a lower effective hourly rate. A consistent 40+ hour schedule is more efficient than several short visits, which is why we enforce a 4-hour minimum per visit.

  • 3

    Hourly vs. Live-In

Hourly care is best for part-time support. Live-in care — where a caregiver resides in the home — is usually the most cost-effective option when 24/7 coverage is needed.

  • 4

    Time of Day & Holidays

Overnight shifts, weekends, and major holidays may carry a premium. White Dove discloses any uplifts upfront — no surprises on the invoice.

  • 5

    Geography

Rates in Atlantic and Cape May Counties generally sit slightly below North NJ averages, but travel distance from our Linwood office can influence scheduling for shorter visits.

Long-Term Care Insurance

If your loved one purchased a long-term care (LTC) policy earlier in life, it typically covers non-medical home care — including ours. We provide the documentation your insurer needs (care logs, RN notes, super-bills) so reimbursement moves smoothly.

Not sure if your policy applies? Bring it to your free consultation — we will help you read the home-care clause.

A note on Medicare & Medicaid.

White Dove is a nurse-led home care agency — we do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. Medicare covers short-term skilled home health (nursing, PT) after a hospital stay, but not ongoing personal care. Families combine direct family payment with VA or LTC benefits to make nurse-led care affordable for the long run.
